Why is it that you have to place a $11 bet to win only $10? I am kinda confused over this betting. :confused:

This is how bookies make their money. this is when you bet against a point spread and bettors are asked to lay a $11 to win $10.

Right on Lancelot, that is how they make money. If you notice even closely $1 more of a $10 bet is 10%.
Want to win $100,000? Bet $110,000 because the $10,000 goes to the bookies.

10% oh my, that's a huge cut! Where are these kinds of bets usually happening? Don't see these kind of bets in casinos.

@Lizzie this 11-10 is usually in sports betting not casinos.
BTW I have a follow up question, the bookie gets 10% from both winning and losing bets or what?
