What is a EV?

Would like to ask what this EV they talk often in strategies. I don't understand what this EV number means.

Anyone care to explain what is it?

EV is short for Expected Value although I too am a bit confused when I read the explanation. Supposed to be its some probability thing but that depends on what game we're talking about.

This is used a lot in poker strategy. If you don't understand it right away,search for a poker EV chart basing on the starting hands. There is a diagram of this showing there EVs. Get familiarized with starting pairs with a good EV. This will help you decide when to play and when to fold.

Assuming that it is poker strategy the OP was asking? EV is a mathematical analogy from what I've been reading. It can be applied to many games and most useful on games of chances. True indeed, poker is one of those card games where the use of EV is more pratical.
