1994 Online Gaming Starts in Antigua

  • Industry began in the tiny island of Antigua. Free Trade and Processing Zone Act was passed, allowing issue of gambling licenses. Microgaming was the first to open a fully operational online casino.
  • Two brothers—Andrew and Mark Rivkin—formed the company Cryptologic (software solutions to safely handle financial transactions with unprecedented encryption designs). At the same time, both Microgaming and Starnet Communications were formed.
