New Microgaming Interface for Slots Tournaments

After the rumors of a deal surfaced, William Hill secured an injunction protecting its interests and preventing Playtech from any action that would infringe their joint venture agreements.

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the two companies came to a amicable resolution; both William Hill and Playtech recently released their financial reports, which showed that William Hill Online significantly contributes to the well being of both companies. Now that a settlement has been reached, both companies will be applying for a discharge of the injunction. Also included in the new terms is an exit provision of the current shareholders agreement, including William Hill’s call option rights that will be applicable at the beginning of 2013 and 2015. William Hill and Playtech also each have more flexibility within their own operations as well as greater flexibility in William Hill Online. William Hill Online will be able to supply betting services without being limited to having to license its software only from Playtech.

In other news, it was reported in United Kingdom and Israeli press that Playtech is considering a possible deal with Gala Coral. Gala Coral is a British company with multiple online gaming products and is interested in using Playtech’s software for its sports betting, online bingo and online casinos. Sources within Gala Coral stated that the new relationship will be more of a supplier-customer relationship as opposed to an acquisition. This new partnership will be allowed due to the new agreement made between Playtech and William Hill.

If the deal between Playtech and Gala Coral goes through, Daily Mail reported that there could be consequences for the Gala Coral’s administration such as job cuts in the company’s IT department. Gala Coral is already currently reorganizing its divisions to be more self-sufficient. Speculations within the online gaming industry are saying that this reorganization is foreshadowing hiving off of certain divisions once the market picks up. This conjecture comes after the company recently refinanced its £2 billion debt.

Both of these current events indicate that the exclusive arrangements between online gaming companies are a thing of the past. Online gaming operators and service providers will want to keep their options open and service as many as possible in the future.

After Black Friday, PokerStars has given over $100 million back to its United States players who had money in their online accounts on the poker site.

We apologize for the delay and the fact that we underestimated the time it would take to work through these issues. We will update our US players when we have more specific information to provide.

Absolute Poker, Canadian-based online poker site, is also reportedly going to begin to return money to US players now that a deal has finally been struck with prosecutors to unfreeze their domain as well. The company stated, however, that it does still have some legal issues to resolve before it can repay its United States-based customers.
